The Boys & Girls Club of Rutland County
Information about Summer Scholarships
The cost for our 2017 camp is $130 per week, which comes out to only $26 per day. However, each child, as a member of the Boys & Girls Club, automatically receives a $55 Club Member Scholarship per week. This brings the price most parents pay to $75 per week (or $15 per day).
We realize of course, that some families need additional support. This is why our summer program qualifies as a fully licensed day care. Because of that, parents/guardians are eligible for the Vermont State Child Care Assistance Subsidy. The steps in that process include:
After completing a summer camp application for your child, Courtney Santor will review your form and ask you to complete an Application for Subsidized Child Care (applications are available online or paper copies are available at the Boys & Girls Club).
Once you have returned/submitted your Application for Subsidized Child Care to the Club, Courtney will call you to schedule an appointment to complete the Child Care Subsidy Application process. Courtney will discuss what documentation you will need to bring to the appointment which will take about 15-20 minutes.
VAC will review your Subsidized Child Care application (they will not accept applications for summer programs until May 9th). You will be notified of the status of your scholarship after your subsidy application has been reviewed by VAC.
If you prefer, the process can be completed online at the Bright Futures website (http://dcf.vermont.gov/cdd/child_care_financial_assistance
), or locally at the Vermont Achievement Center by calling 773-4365 and making an appointment on your own. The application process gathers information regarding your household needs and income. Both the website and VAC make it very clear what documents you’ll need to have on-hand.
If you apply for child care assistance, and receive a partial rate or no assistance at all, the Boys & Girls Club has additional, limited funds available for Need-Based Scholarships. We do ask that everyone who wishes to apply for a Need-Based Scholarship go through the Child Care Assistance process first.
After financial arrangements have been made, you will receive a Summer Camp Family Handbook, which outline our policies, procedures, and schedule. There are additional forms that you will need to review, fill out and return in order to secure your child’s place in the summer camp program. Please note: Your child may not attend camp until these forms are completed. In addition to the Handbook, you will receive an invoice explaining how much your family owes after all financial assistance and scholarships have been applied. You may pay this in one lump sum, or per week at the start of camp every Monday.
