The Boys & Girls Club has grown in the 19 years it has been in existence. In addition to now serving youth ages 6 to 18, with expanded resources, the Club has attracted and retained a qualified youth development staff to help run age specific programs. Our staff has degrees in a diverse number of fields, including Therapeutic Recreation, Health and Physical Education, Individual and Family Studies, Business and Human Relations, Social Work, Communication and Art .The Club has continued to grow since 2003, after opening our doors at a new site in downtown Rutland.
In addition to our home base at 71 Merchants Row, we've opened 2 new units. One, at Barstow Memorial School and one at Hickory St (Formerly Known as Forest Park), which is located in Rutland City’s Public Housing. We serve 700 youth over three sites, with over 90% of our members on Rutland’s free and reduced lunch program.
We have a history of unique collaborations within the Rutland community. Our highly successful summer camp was started in collaboration with the Rutland Recreation Department, allowing the community to offer the same quality programming at a lower price. This provided opportunities to Rutland youth that didn't have access to a summer camp experience in the past.
Another collaboration that has been important to us is our relationship with the Rutland Housing Authority. Working together, we opened our unit at Forest Park, which filled a gap in our community by providing services at the doorsteps of the families that need us most. Additional organizations we collaborate with include the Rutland Regional Partnership, Rutland City Police Department, Park Street Health Share, Rutland City Public Schools, Vermont Department of Labor, Rutland Area Prevention Coalition, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Green Mountain Rock Climbing Gym, Castleton State College, the USTA, Green Mountain College, Vermont Sport and Fitness and Rutland Mental Health.
