Open to youth ages 5-18
GREAT FUTURES START HERE
Program Details:

  • After School Program

This after school program is offered at Barstow, Fair Haven and Rutland City  from 3:00pm - 6:30pm (M-F) and serves a nutritious meal at 5:00pm.

  • Teen Program
The Boys & Girls Club of Rutland County is excited about its new teen program at our Hickory Street.

We are opening on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 15 Junebury Street form 5 pm till 8 pm with a nutritious meal served every evening at 5.

The move was made to give teens a safe and fun place to go on Friday and Saturday evening. We offer academic support, job training, including resume writing and offer a program called PREP which is an evidenced based program dealing  with healthy relationships. We also make it a fun, interactive environment where kids can play basketball, play video games and go on weekly field trips. So far we have visited Burlington Lake Monster games, skate parks in Bristol and Burlington, Fenway Park and Lake Bomoseen.

This winter we are planning trips to the Boston Garden, Killington and local colleges. The center is open to teens from 13 to 19 and there is a small fee to cover part of the cost for field trips.

Program Curriculum:

The 2017 curriculum is built around 2 evidenced based programs that are relevant to Rutland County youth.
  • The first is an early aged prevention program that is called Positive Action. This is a national program that is age specific and it teaches youth about self esteem and peer pressure at the early stages and progresses into the consequences of our choices at the later stages of the curriculum.
  • The other core program is called Changing Perspective. This is a program based on engaging youth with hands on learning to build greater awareness of differences and inspire empathy.
In addition to these 2 core programs we also offer homework support, physical activity, ping pong , air hockey and as little video game time as possible.

“The work of the Boys and Girls club in Rutland is critical to the collaborative efforts underway in Rutland to address the opiate abuse issues, the issues around family violence and the associated disorder in neighborhoods. The effort to have positive role models in kid's lives is at the core of prevention. The Boys and Girls Club plays a leading role in those efforts,”

-Former City of Rutland Chief of Police James W. Baker.
